I'd like to think I'm quite fair in life. Do to others as I'd have them do to me, but I can, sometimes be a bit stubborn & selfish. I don't always see it, and people rarely point it out to me.
When things go well for me, I can think my brain is super charged. When things don't go well, I can think I'm a bit crap.
What I often fail to remember, is that when things are really cool, there might be other people/forces at work, helping me along.
I wonder which of the world's leaders wake up in the morning and think, "Right, another day as ruler of my country, by divine right."?
I believe in democracy, and I also believe in other ideas which are for me, but not necessarily for everyone.
If people try to force their ideas onto me I see it as a challenge.
If people help me unconditionally, I'm grateful.
Sometimes, knowing the difference is tricky.
Gordon Brown said last week, that we owe it to the world, to enforce liberty & democracy.
Did he mean "help the suffering, & be ready to stand up for the oppressed"?
As the ruler of my own head, I need to feel gratitude for my perception of the world, not entitlement. Or I trip over my own arrogance. (Which I still do)
The more I'm given, the harder this becomes, which is why I don't think I could handle the power, being Dictator of a Banana Republic.
Thanks.
(But can I still count on your vote, if I run for president of the Musicians Union?)

Fuck! You've really struck a nerve with this one, but since I've just downed two Cosmopolitans, I'm too drunk to say anything intelligent or cohesive, so I'll come back tomorrow. In any case, I will pass out blissfully knowing there are more like-minded people out there (unless I'm too drunk and misunderstood waht you wre saying. I'm not kidding. I am drunk.) Goodnight.
I wrote and recorded a theme song for a clown once and was never paid. If I give you my vote, could you hurry along the investigation?
aaron.
I pledge, if I were elected, to create a secret police force, specifically devoted to singling out & shaming clowns who default on their payments.
xx
You're a doll.
Would you execute Chris De Burgh for crimes to music?
Or just for having those eyebrows?
Speaking of people forcing their ideas on you. I had an old man come into my work the other day.
At first he seemed friendly, and then he started quoting the bible, and telling me god bless you and the rest of the people here. Just spewing out random things. He then handed me a folded up piece of paper, which contained different passages and quotes from the bible.
I may sound like a jerk, but I don't need someone to preach me a sermon. How did that man know what my religious beliefs were, I could be Jewish for all he knows. The challenge for me in this case, was not to yell.
So if I vote for you, will you rid the world of frightening people like that?
Oh and to go along with my little religious rant, I will send you a video, that's a trailer for the documentary called Jesus Camp.
Piers, I was just saying this morning how I hadn't sung 'The Lady In Red' at karaoke in quite some time. I make people weep with that song. Leave Chris De Burgh alone!
Okay! Sober now. so, I'm really into the part about seeing it as a challenge when someone tries to force their ideas on you, but being grateful when someone tries to help you unconditionally.
In reference to Kelly's comment, is the person forcing their religious views helping you or challenging you? In those situations, while I know they are trying to help, I can't help but feel challenged and fight my opposition to their religion. A waste of time...but they started it! Should I just be grateful? If they really believed I was doomed to burn in hell, then I should appreciate their futile efforts? Is it their way of stopping me from stepping out in front of a bus? I just think they're doomed to being ignorant, so I have no reason to berate them with my opinion, other than that I find ignorance most irritating.
I do think world leaders wake up feeling their leadership is a divine right. Maybe not all, but I am not well versed in political manouvers of the last 100 years to state as much, but from what I do follow, the instances of leaders ignoring the will of the people who elect them (and I'm not referring to matters where the leader may be privvy to more intelligence than the public) is enough to show that when given the chance, they will do what benefits them and their cronies ala Bush and Halliburton and John Howard of Australia pushing NOT to label products with GMO even though polls showed 90+% of the population wanted it. What a cunt.
Oops...should a comment not be longer than the blog to which it was referring to? I apologise. I don't know the ins and out of blog etiquette.
You can count on me Rob! We need more groove in music!
Seems all voters have pointed out some of their concerns here (our votes aren't unconditional I guess). So here is mine... I do not think that the (free?) 'groove for every one' policy should be enforced in a Brownish kinda way, that might result in an unintended resentment towards the groove.
(boring serious note: BTW i think your Musicians Union actually is a good idea, in my opinion a sense of mutual interest between musicians/ composers often lacking. They should unite as musicians and not put their (musical) faith in the hands of others too much. As a union they could defend their common interests better.)
Could a musician's union create a force against corporate rock and bad pop forcing record labels to sign talent again? Probably not. It would turn into a fascist dictatorship before long. That wouldn't be a problem as long as my kind of people were in charge.
speaking as a dictator, i would just like to note that it is VERY hard work.
kate is fuckin awesome.
Mm.. how should that sentence be read?
(my appologies, it's 9 am, testosterone levels are high)
rob,my english is poor
so maybe i just didn't understand your mind
but i think you are emotional
be clamed
mind would be changed so quick
Elriva,
Yes I am emotional.
I'll take that as a compliment.
But thanks for the advice, I do need to relax more.
xx
i don't want to hijack your blog, rob, so feel COMPLETELY free to delete this (thus spake the dictator).
so, costa, is it the fact that i am a dictator, or the fact that steph seems to think that's okay, the thing that makes your testosterone rise in the morning?
while ruling with an iron fist means that i can largely ignore most of what i hear, i am a curious type.
to say nothing of the fact that this is neither my domain nor dominion. mine is a far smaller enterprise.
although, to alay your doubts and fears, while i *am* an absolute, if compassionate, ruler i do not wake up thinking that my rights are in any way divinely ordained or sanctioned. it's a secular persuit.
perhaps it is because it isn't a banana republic, though? didn't think of that.
okay. i ramble.
now answer my question.
Kate,
Your dominance compels me to answer you.
Now, what was the question again?
xx
why is costa's testosterone up?
Because everyone's testosterone levels are highest in the morning. (Hence the phenomenon of morning wood.)
interesting. is "morning wood" the same as "norwegian wood"?
Probably Stephanananaa was right about my hormone levels, which are high in most persons in the morning.
But perhaps other factors aswell, I can't remember very well. I know I feel quite similar now (12:41) as I did then, but perhaps that has to do with Kate's words (I like strong women).
Anyway, my appologies to your Rob... we went from the subject of your great leadership too close to my poor sexlife (am I typing this?) and that's a shame!!
So peeps, let's not get distracted here, please tell Rob what you think of his proposision to take over the world. I wonder how that will effect us, what kind of uniform do we have to wear (not tugged in shirts?), do I have to grow a moustache, I am still allowed to have a special row for the Backstreet Boys on my CD shelf? (joke) etc etc. Think well about this people! We like his music, but what is the real Rob like? He asks for votes, but on the other hand claims to be a dictator. In addition, have you heard his secret morse code message in 'Coffee in the pot'?
Kate: Morning wood is a term from Beavis & Butthead...I was such a fan. Their video critiques were spot-on brilliant. (So I lit a fire, isn't it good, morning wood?)
Costa: There's a morse code message in Coffee In The Pot?!
