It's strange how just one good thing can change my day. My kids gave me a card & CD for fathers day. I know it's the thought that counts, but it's also a really cool CD. It's a compilation of Soul music mostly from the 60s-70s. It's got Gil Scott-Heron, Curtis Mayfield and some that are less familiar to me.
My daughter is pretty fly for a nine year old. A cool cat & all that. I do try not to be too hard on her because it's not like I'm really tidy myself. I don't want her to tidy her room for me. I don't have to live in it- it's for her. So maybe I should back off a bit- until it gets really bad? I'm confused now.
Thank you for your experience of being told to tidy your room-(from my last posting) I can learn from this, since I can't remember too many tidying experiences I had as a boy/teenager/irresponsible young adult.

Happy fathers day, Robert J. I have the same room-cleaning delimma with our kids and sometimes I wonder how big a deal to make out of things that seem small, I hope we don't scar them for life. With any luck they'll turn out all right... When Supergrass were here in Seattle in February (I guess you weren't along, Charly was here in your stead) we met Gaz and Mick outside a radio station and they were nice enough to ask all of us in for their soundcheck. They were so sweet to our two (Judah and Rilian) and talked so sweetly about their own kids. You seem like really good dads, thanks for your music and for being funny and self-aware and vulnerable as you are, happy fathers day again.

G'day Rob,

Yeah, see if you aren't too tidy yourself, you have to watch it. When I grew up, I realised my parents were just as bad at throwing things away as I am, so now we always get into arguements about the stupid things the other wont let go of. Best thing to do is marry her off to someone who is good at tossing things out, if she has a hoarding problem. That's what I did and it's the only breakthrough I've had on the quest for clean.

Have a great Father's day!

Ironically, now I have to go tidy up the house before my husband returns home from tour in a few hours. My week of slovenliness has come to an end.

Greetings Rob,

how very exciting to find you now have a blog! On the tidying front - send her to her Auntie on the north east coast and I promise you she will soon learn to delight in the beauty of a clean floor, an organised bookcase and perfectly vertical posters. I fear bribery can only work for so long - once she hits thirteen only brainwashing will fix the problem... Aside from that, glad all is well with you my dear!

A small italianate cousin of yours x

Dear Rob,

They did not lie. You are alive. What a relief. Your brother can beat the living daylights out of a keyboard (truly great), but we missed you all the same (and, being compulsive, worried about you).

Make her tidy her room. Then she won't have to spend hours on her tax returns when the time comes. (Ginger is *great* at organizing -- saves us HOURS at tax time. I am just compulsively clean. When you need cleaning tips, let us know.)

Anyway, just a "welcome back" (from a world you haven't left).

Best,
Kate

PS: Come on over to the States. It's already been too long.
